A case in point is their weekend opponents from Hyderabad. Staring at an early exit, David Warner and Co have remained in the contest with two wins from their previous three encounters. RCB will find their match in the on-song Hyderabad outfit.
IPL 2020 POINTS TABLE
While RCB need to win one of the remaining two matches for a safe passage into the playoffs, SRH, currently sixth on the table, will have to win both their remaining contests to stay alive in the competition.
RCB, placed second on the points table, will look stabilise their misfiring middle-order and bowling in the death overs. Once the top four is back in the dugout, the rest have been unravelling in quickly. The time is now for the likes of Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar and Gurkeerat Singh to step up, especially in the middle-overs.
On many occasions has RCB’s scoring rate dipped drastically in the middle overs after a good start by the openers. The three-time finalists look fragile in the pace department after Navdeep Saini was laid low by injury. Seasoned Dale Steyn, playing in his third match of the season, proved very expensive against Mumbai Indians earlier in the week.
UDANA MAY RETURN
The match may see the return of Isuru Udana and if they are tempted to play an extra bowler, Umesh Yadav or Shahbaz Ahmed may get a look in. After a high of the 88-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous match, SRH, the former champions, will take on RCB with their own set of problems. To begin with, they will have to rethink their line-up. Having dropped Jonny Bairstow in favour of Wriddhiman Saha, who delivered the goods with his game-changing 87 against Delhi Capitals, there are doubts about the availability of Saha who suffered a groin injury in the match.
All-rounder Vijay Shankar too is injured having pulled a hamstring on Wednesday and has been ruled out of the tournament. Warner will have to deliver at the top and hope for Manish Pandey to continue with his fine run with the bat.
On the bowling front, SRH will bank on their spin ace Rashid Khan to check the opposition along with pacers Sandeep Sharma and T Natarajan. While it is a perform or perish match for Hyderabad, Kohli & Co too will look to wrap up their playoffs berth with a game to spare.
