Delhi Capitals take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match No. 55 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 with a place in the top two on the line for both teams. DC have won the toss and opted to bowl first. Josh Philippe and Devdutt Padikkal get RCB a steady start, hitting the first boundary only in the third over. Padikkal plays a few exquisite drives for boundaries but Kagiso Rabada strikes with his first ball as RCB lost Philippe. Padikkal and Virat Kohli rebuild with caution. DC have made three changes: Ajinkya Rahane, Daniel Sams and Axar Patel are in while Praveen Dubey, Harshal Patel and Shimron Hetmyer are out. RCB have made two changes as well. Gurkeerat Mann and Navdeep Saini make way for Shivam Dube and Shahbaz Ahmed. Both RCB and DC are almost guaranteed a top four spot as they sit at No. 2 and 3 respectively on the points table with 14 points each. The winner of this clash will move to 16 points to guarantee a No. 2 spot and with it two chances to make the final. (LIVE SCORECARD)

IPL 2020 Match 55 Live Score Updates Between DC vs RCB, From Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

  • 20:17 (IST)

    RCB 68/1 after 11 overs

Both Kohli and Padikkal have started taking more risks and have been hitting the ball in the air. The boundaries, though, haven’t been as frequent.

They are still going at just over 6 runs an over.

  • 20:15 (IST)

    This will hurt. Especially Nortje.

Kohli comes charging down the wicket to a slower ball from Rabada and slaps it through the covers for four.

Kohli is trying to get a move-on.

  • 20:14 (IST)

    Dropped! Nortje drops Kohli!

Oh Anrich Nortje, what have you done?

Kohli finally decides to take some risk and hit Axar Patel in the air. He doesn’t get the timing right and the ball lobs in the air. Nortje comes running in at long-on, grabs the ball even as he sits down on one knee but the ball pops out of his hand at the last moment.

  • 20:10 (IST)

    RCB 56/1 after 9 overs

RCB need a move on. They will be bowling second and the dew effect means they need some extra runs up front for the requisite cover for their bowlers.

  • 20:05 (IST)

    50 up for RCB – 52/1 after 8 overs

RCB have brought up their 50 in the eighth over. They have nine wickets in hand and AB de Villiers is yet to come.

One of the two batsmen at the crease should look to take a few more risks.

  • 20:03 (IST)

Only six runs from Ashwin’s second over – RCB 46/1 after 7 overs

Ashwin goes for six in his second over despite conceding a boundary. Padikkal has played some exquisite shots but the RCB run rate is still only 6.57 runs per over.

They may look to be more aggressive at some stage.

  • 20:00 (IST)

    Padikkal is on song.

Ashwin drops this ball slightly short and wide of off stump. Padikkal goes deep in his crease, gets on top of the ball and cuts this ball between point and third man for four.

  • 19:58 (IST)

Padikkal shows he has the ability to carress the balls to the boundaries. Angled across from Nortje and Padikkal opens the face of the bat to guide it fine down the third man region for four.

RCB are 40/1 after 6 overs. End of Powerplay.

  • 19:57 (IST)

    Kohli has arrived.

There was nothing wrong with this ball but Kohli is too good.

He punches this good-length delivery off the back foot and splits the gap between cover and extra cover as the ball speeds away for four.

  • 19:53 (IST)

Padikkal is looking to be in great touch here.

He plays his third lofted drive and connects successfully. He drives this full ball by Rabada over cover-point this time and the ball runs away for four.

  • 19:52 (IST)

    WICKET! Philippe c Shaw b Rabada 12 (17)

Rabada comes into the attack and strikes with his first ball!

Philippe gets a leading edge on the ball as he tries to loft the ball over the infield. The ball flies over the cover region, where Prithvi Shaw takes an excellent catch even as he had been backtracking with the ball.

The opening partnership has been nipped in the bud before it could fully flourish.

  • 19:48 (IST)

Rabada saves a boundary – RCB 25/0 after 4 overs

Another beautiful shot by Padikkal. Nortje pitches full again and Padikkal plays an aerial drive again, this time over mid-off.

Rabada gives chase and dives full-length to stop the ball from touching the boundary rope and manages to cut it off.

    Great effort by Rabada.

  • 19:45 (IST)

Padikkal gets going with an extended cover drive that almost carries the ball for a six.

Nortje pitches it full in the length and angles it across the lef-hander, Padikkal frees his arms and hits it over the infield for four.

  • 19:44 (IST)

Anrich Nortje has been introduced in the fifth over

Kagiso Rabada hasn’t bowled yet. Nortje comes on to bowl his first over in the fifth of the innings.

  • 19:40 (IST)

    First boundary for RCB.

Sams bowls short and wide of off stump and Philippe fetches it from there towards wide long-on for four.

This will break the shackles for RCB.

  • 19:38 (IST)

    RCB 10/0 after 2 overs

A couple and four singles mean only six runs come in the second over. Both batsmen have treated Ashwin with respect and have not attempted to hit in the air with the field restrictions inside the first six overs.

  • 19:36 (IST)

It’s R Ashwin from the other end to bowl the second over

Delhi have brought on Ashwin in the second over with the new ball. Ashwin bowls well in the Powerplay and there’s Padikkal, a left-hander, at the crease as well.

  • 19:34 (IST)

A good first over by Sams – RCB 4/0 after 1 over

Philippe drives the second ball of the first over down the ground for a single. RCB are off the mark.

Only four singles come in the first over.

  • 19:30 (IST)

Toss: Delhi Capitals win the toss and field

Shreyas Iyer says Delhi Capitals will bowl first after winning the toss.

“While chasing we would be having a certain total in our mind and we would be having a clear idea on the run rate as well – considering those factors we decided to bowl,” says Iyer.

Delhi have made three changes: Ajinkya Rahane, Daniel Sams and Axar Patel are in while Praveen Dubey, Harshal Patel and Shimron Hetmyer are out.

RCB have two changes as well: Shivam Dube comes in for Gurkeerat Mann, Shahbaz Nadeem comes in for Navdeep Saini.

    Pitch Report

Ajit Agarkar reckons that fast bowlers will get some help from this pitch even as it remains good for batting.

The dew could be a factor, though, and the captain winning the toss would most likely bowl first.

Top-two finish on the line for DC and RCB

Both RCB and DC are sitting pretty with 14 points each and barring a very heavy defeat for either of them a place in the top four is guaranteed.

A place in the top two, though, is on offer. The team that wins this game will move to 16 points and will finish No. 2 to set-up a clash with Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1.

Mumbai, who sit atop the table with 18 points, could finish with 20 if they win their last league game against SunRisers Hyderabad.

SRH, who are fifth with 12 points, will displace fourth-placed Kolkata Knight Riders from that position if they beat Mumbai and make the last four.
